The Crossover: Greek and Norse Mythology

Greek God Games and Norse God Games

Throughout our diverse portfolio of games, you’ll find an array of dynamic characters, immersive narratives, and stunning visuals.

Our mythology series are standout, none quite so legendary as our Greek and Norse Mythology titles. When looking through these games, we couldn’t help but notice some cool similarities amongst the characters and also their differences.

If you’re a mythology nut (or even if you’re not), you’ll love this. Keep reading.

FAMILY FEUDS

There’s no denying that in both mythologies, things can get a little... tense, sometimes.

If it’s not Loki looking to overthrow Odin and take the throne of Asgard in Tales of Asgard: Loki’s Fortune, Zeus and his brothers Hades and Poseidon are plotting to take down the titans and their father Cronus in both Rise of Olympus and Rise of Gods: Reckoning (coming soon).

I think we can agree that both Norse and Greek god families have their ups and downs, kind of like us mere mortals.

HAVE I SEEN YOU BEFORE?

Characters play a huge role in driving narrative, stirring emotions and creating a mirror that sometimes we can see a little of ourselves in. The same can be said for the characters that both of these mythologies give us.

The same can be said of the characters that appear in our games. If we held up a mirror, who would we see?

Both Zeus and Thor hardness thunder and lightning to destroy and harness power in Rise of Olympus and Tales of Asgard: Freya’s Wedding. Powerful in stance and nature, but as the King of Gods maybe be a better match for Zeus would be Odin: Protector of the Realms. Both portray a father-like figure to the other gods in their clans.

GOOD OR EVIL?

When it comes to some gods and their intentions we’re left wondering, so... are they good or evil? Hades and Loki are great examples of this.

Neither of them are particularly ‘evil’ but their reputations are misleading. We see Loki in Tales of Asgard: Loki’s Fortune and Tales of Asgard: Freya's Wedding, hatching mischievous plans. And Hades in Rise of Olympus and Rise of Gods: Reckoning with a trickster kind of vibe. But does this make them evil? We think more altruistic.

GRACIOUS GODDESSES

We see both Freya and Athena grace in their named games, Faces of Freya and Rise of Athena.

The goddesses played different roles in their different worlds, Freya was known as the Goddess of Love, while Athena, the Goddess of War. Both were unselfish and helpful in nature, but Freya has a darker side which she’s prone to reveal should you get on the wrong side of her. Whereas Athena is more pragmatic and has an affinity to the more civilised virtues of war.

THE VERDICT

Although there are similar traits to these characters, each brings something new to the table and together they create an almighty clan of divine beings that make for ultimate storytelling.
