What is Craps?

In Craps, you bet on the outcome of the roll of a pair of dice. The most basic rule to remember is this.

A player rolls two dice and gets a sum total; the other players then play the odds of getting the same sum again. But this should appear before a 7 is rolled.

Rules of Craps

There are some basic Craps rules to get to grips with before you start to play. The player who throws the dice is called the shooter. They begin the game by rolling a pair of dice. This ‘come-out roll’ has three possible outcomes:

Natural

Outcome is 7 or 11. You win and roll again.

Craps

Outcome is 2, 3, or 12. You lose this time but get another chance to roll.

Point

Outcome is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. This is called a point. To win, you need to roll the dice again and get the same sum.

Bets in Craps

There are various types of bets to play in Craps. What you choose depends on your level of experience and expertise.

Pass Line

You bet on the shooter to pass (or win). You win if they roll either a 7 or 11. If the shooter rolls 2, 3, or 12, you lose. Any number other than these is designated as the point. If that number is rolled again, you win. But if a 7 is rolled before that, you lose.

Don’t Pass

You bet on the shooter to lose. You win if they roll a 2 or 3, or they roll a 7 before rolling the point. If the shooter rolls either a 7 or 11, you lose. The outcome of 12 is called a push, and you neither win nor lose. If the outcome is anything else, that number is now the point. If the shooter rolls out a 7 after this, you win; if they roll the point, you lose.

Come

This bet is made after those made on the come-out roll. You predict the next roll and bet on that. You win if the total is 7 or 11. You lose if the total is 2, 3, or 12. However, if the shooter rolls a point, then it plays out like the Pass bet.

Don’t Come

This bet is also made after the come-out roll and is similar to the Don’t Pass bet. You win if the shooter rolls either 2 or 3; if they roll 7 or 11, you lose. A total of 12 is a push. But if they roll a point, you win if they roll out 7 before the point.

There are other slightly advanced bets too, such as Field, Proposition, and Place.

We know what you're thinking... If you're playing online, how is the outcome of the dice decided? Craps uses a random number generator (RNG) to determine the outcome, ensuring that the game remains fair and unbiased.
